Q15: What are the settings to
enable VPN connections?
VPN (Virtual Private Network) connections allow for encrypted
and authenticated connections between private networks across the Internet.
They are referred as tunnels.
WOOWEB-PRO is neither a VPN client neither a VPN server. Do
not make the confusion with DSL modems that uses the PPTP protocol. On the other
hand, WOOWEB-PRO can let communications pass between VPN clients and servers.
You just need to do some modification in WOOWEB-PRO settings.
Let us suppose that the VPN server and the
VPN client are located on remote LANs, both of them sharing
their Internet access with WOOWEB-PRO.
Into the WOOWEB-PRO giving access to the VPN client: you must
authorize the PPTP protocol for the ISP. To do that, select "Settings..Connection"
in the main menu. Select an ISP and click "Properties". Select the
"Filtering" tab. Check "VPN/PPTP" protocol in the
protocol list.
Into the WOOWEB-PRO giving access to the
VPN server:
- In the same way as on the client, select
"Settings..Connection" in the main menu. Select an ISP and click
"Properties". Select the "Filtering" tab. Check
"VPN/PPTP" protocol in the protocol list.
- Select "Settings..Remote Filters"
- Select "Allow the Remote Clients According to the Following
Rules".
- Add and configure a filter in order to authorize some specific
remote users to access the VPN server
- Tell WOOWEB-PRO which local machine is to be accessed from
the Internet. To do that, in the "Destination" tab, fill in the " Map the Internet Client To the Local Computer"
section, the IP address or name of the local VPN server.
- In the "Port/Protocol" tab, validate the VPN port #1723 and the PPTP protocol
(47).
To do that, select either "Allow Accesses to All Ports and Protocols"
or "Allow
accesses only to the Checked Following Port Ranges and Protocol Numbers".
in this last case, in the "Selected Port Range and Protocol Number" box, enter
in the name field "VPN" and select the port range 1723-1723. Click "Add"
and make sure the new VPN port is checked in the port list. Then enter again in
the name field "PPTP" and select the Protocol Number 47. Click "Add" and make sure
the new PPTP protocol is checked.
- Validate the filter and make sure it is checked in the "Remote Filters" dialog.
